Early BLW experiment

Jimmy is still 1 week away from 6 months. But I was dying to try out BLW since I knew he would need time to adjust. So yesterday I asked my helper to steam 4 broccoli stalks for 6 minutes.

We put Jimmy in his brand new high chair with towels as support and put the broccolis on the tray.

Food: 4 stalks of broccolis (steamed for 6 minutes)

Time: 5:15 PM (right before his bath time)

Result: he was still getting used to sitting on the high chair and his hands were tense. His right hand was firmly holding on to one side of the chair and wouldn't let go. He used his left hand to occasionally sway over the broccolis, but that was it. I think he was more concerned in getting a grip at sitting. He can't sit properly just yet.

Duration: 5 minutes.

Next steps: continue training him to sit on his bumbo chair, and put him on the high chair once a day to let him getbused to it.

Super simple mac & cheese

Mac n cheese is my favorite food. So is a fat juicy steak. But that's expensive.

Anyway I had been craving for mnc for weeks. But I was just too lazy, it's not that simple to make. Boil this boil that, mix this mix that. Too many things going on. I'm a microwave girl, my brain can't take too many instructions. And I can't spend more than 30 minutes in the kitchen. The TV needs me.

Today was the peak of my craving. So I googled for a simple recipe. And I found Nigella's recipe (love her show btw). Looks super simple. I simplified it even more due to lack of ingredients. Didn't even have eggs. So this was my super simple version:
  • 250 grams macaroni
  • 250 grams of grated kraft cheddar (cheapest cheese)
  • 250 ml of warmed milk (I used greenfields high calcium low fat milk and heat it up in the microwave)
  • Salt and pepper
  1. Cook the macaroni as usual
  2. Mix the warm milk and grated cheese
  3. Mix 1 and 2 together. Add salt and pepper.
  4. Put it in a oven safe dish and bake for 10-15 minutes at 220 deg C
  5. Eat like there's no tomorrow.
Et voilà. Good enough for me! Plus this makes about 3-4 servings, so I can eat it again for breakfast tomorrow wohoooo!

5.5 months

This morning I woke up at 3:30 AM because I heard Jimmy cry. I looked at my monitor, and it looked like he was on his tummy! I rushed to his room and there he was, on his tummy with half of his legs off the mattress. He must have rolled over during his sleep because when I picked him up, his eyes were closed. Poor baby, good thing he didn't fall off the mattress.
I just purchased evamats 2 days ago from Tororo, and I plan to surround his mattress with the rubber mats just in case he falls off. We already have this Javan mosquito net that's supposed to be able to hold 10 kg, but I leave one size of it unzipped because the zipper is so noisy, it would wake Jimmy up if I try to close it.

So I fed him a bit, but then I had to lay him down again because I was dying to go to the toilet, dying to drink and dying to pump! So obviously he was wide awake by the time I was done with everything. So we just layed together on his bed until 5 AM, then I tried feeding him to sleep again. And he slept til 6. Now he's outside doing his morning walk with my helper. Me time!

The best deals for baby stuff in Jakarta

You know me, always looking for the best deals in town as if my life depended on it. Hey, 50 cents goes a long way...heck that could even get me a meal in Jakarta (indomie!).

This is based on my personal experience on where to get the cheapest things for my baby. So this isn't Mothercare or The Childrens' Store types of shops that you can find in most malls.

For daily essential products (diapers, wipes, etc.)
1. Tororo online shop. So far they've been the cheapest compared to other online shops and hypermarkets (unless the hypermarkets are having some super special discounts). They're fast too, they have a flat rate of Rp. 5,000 for deliveries in Jakarta, no matter how much you order. They ship everything the next day, and sometimes on the same day if you order in the morning. So why face Jakarta traffic when you can get things delivered to your doorstep right? I buy everything in bulk here for diapers, wipes, breastmilk storage bags, detergent, etc. so I save on delivery cost.

2. Bilna online shop. This is more expensive than Tororo most of the time, but sometimes they have extra discounts, so you just have to watch for it. And they carry a wider range than Tororo. The delivery time isn't as consistent as Tororo, and they still have bugs on their website everytime I tried to order something. But good option.

3. Kindercube online shop. I haven't tried this one yet, but they have a good range of products, for example, you can find the French Cham Pie Gnon teethers here for cheap.

For baby gears (strollers, car seats, highchairs, etc.)
ITC Kuningan is the place to go, mainly these stores:

1. Ocha Baby Shop
ITC Kuningan 1st floor Blok B4/5-6
(021) 579 346 04
Open daily: 12.00 - 20.00

2. Fany Baby Shop
ITC Kuningan 4th floor Blok B2 No 1-2
(021) 96969 264

3. Jungle Baby Shop
ITC Kuningan 4th floor Blok B 10/3
(021) 5793 5341

You wouldn't really want to come here with your baby though, the toilets are.....less than adequate let's just say. These are not shops to browse around in, the place isn't the most comfortable, so I'd suggest you call them up first and ask for the price of whatever it is you want to buy (specific), and if the price suits you, you can just do a quick pick up over there so it saves you the hassle of bargaining, or you can just send someone over to pick up and pay for it.

Voilà voilà that's my list.

Whyyy whyyy whyyy

Jimmy woke up at 4:15 AM today. Whywhywhywhywhywhy.

His usual wake up time is 5:15 AM. But I can't complain. He's been sleeping through the night for over a month now. I didn't even sleep train him. It just happened.

Ok, 12 more hours to go!
